Old Secrets
I have that special feeling that comes from living in one place for forty years. I suppose I don’t really “own”” my home as much as it “owns” me. Occasionally the “old gal”, against her better judgment, has some of her secrets revealed, which I find fascinating especially when there is relevance to my own life.
On the occasions, during home renovations, when replacing big sections of old twine plaster wall panels, which had seen better days, they were replaced with new sheet rock, also known as “Plasterboard”. I would quietly say my thanks to the original home owner who used the wall cavities to place items of a personal nature. It certainly has made for some interesting reading.
I always get excited when renovating a room.
After the careful removing of any unnecessary furniture which will need to be protected against their own men who in the using of a carefully hidden box cutter… “safe hands" sooner rather than later. when it is returned to the new property it will be without damaged furniture.
After photographing the treasures, in situ, I turn to the web clues abound there.
As sharing the taking them out of the wall leaving spaces and the letters, the trinkets and keepsakes hidden , for following generations to discover the treasure, found, hopefully, by a person who ‘d understand their historical relevance.
The letters, they’re speaking to me from beyond yesterday.
One day I even found a well worn gold band, hidden in a grooved book spine and after having been photographed, catalogued, replaced in a wall aperture, he was put back on the wall, along with all the other “Wall Escapees.”
My house was built over 120 years ago. I love my home.
